NEW POINTS SYSTEM WILL MAKE BRITISH TKM KART CHAMPIONSHIPS EVEN CLOSER

A new points system inspired by drivers will make the battle for the British TKM Kart Championships even closer in 2020.

The end of year survey of drivers showed a desire for points to be scored from heats so Motorsport UK have created a new system which will really take championship results down to the wire.

This year points scored at each of the six rounds will be divided three ways, first for the heats, second for the pre-final and then for the final itself. They can also be accrued in repechage finals if required.

So there will be 18 point scoring opportunities of which three can be dropped – and they can be any three so not from the same race meeting. So for example if a driver does well in the heats and pre-final but then has a problem in the final they will still be able to take two good scores from that meeting.

A special system has been created by championship timekeeper Ian Rogers to allow drivers to see a virtual display of the positions as the season goes on and will undoubtedly make for an ultra-close championship finale. Clever manipulation of points is required to make this all possible and some have struggled to understand fully from the regulations.

Says Motorsport UK Kart Manager Dan Parker: “What we have done here is exactly what drivers asked for. It will give drivers a better chance to score points from an event even if they have had a disaster during one part of it. It really puts the emphasis on good consistent scoring of points.”

And adds TKM boss Alan Turney: “Our championship results have always been so close and this will just make it even more important to keep putting in those top level drives. Once again the organisers have done exactly what our drivers asked for.”

The first round of the British TKM Championships for Juniors and Senior Extreme starts at Fulbeck in April with the official warm up event taking place as the TKM Spring Cup at Fulbeck on March 21/22. Drivers wanting to race at the first round must have completed registration and entry by the end of March.
