Tal-Ko Racing has confirmed provisional details of its midlands based TKM Club Championship for 2013 – and thrown the idea open to drivers in the South and North.
The TKM Club Championship had more than 70 registered drivers in 2012 – its first year in operation – and saw strong grids at Kimbolton, Shenington, Rissington and Whilton Mill.
A post championship survey among drivers showed full support for the series, which is aimed at introducing less experienced drivers to new circuits and to the principle of racing in a multi-circuit championship.
Says TKM boss Alan Turney: “We have had overwhelming support for the championship which seems to be an ideal format for drivers and clubs alike. It has created more club level racing at a time when many are struggling to fill grids.
“The key elements that drivers like are the limited amount of travelling to other circuits, the low cost of competing with no mandatory fuel etc, and the friendly nature of the racing.”
For 2013 the same format will be used with registered drivers scoring from rounds at each of the same four circuits. However for 2013 the last round at Whilton Mill will be a double header with two finals for each class to give a real sting in the tail.
Competitors will enter as normal for each club event and their positions within the finals used to establish their scores in the championship disregarding those who are not registered in the series. Just one final can be used as a dropped score.
The only additional cost to drivers to compete in the series will be a registration cost of £55. At the end of the year there will be quality trophies and TKM vouchers for the top five in each class – Juniors and Seniors.
The provisional 2013 dates include two prestige meetings – the Superpix at Shenington and the Midlands Champs at Rissington. They are:
May 12 - Kimbolton
June 15/16 - Shenington Superprix
Aug 31/Sept 1 - Rissington Midlands Championships
September 22 - Whilton Mill
Registration forms are available in the Inter-Club Championship section.
Meanwhile TKM is encouraging drivers and clubs in the North and South to look at establishing similar events in those areas. TKM Co-ordinator Grahame Butterworth says: “There is certainly interest from drivers in setting up equivalent series in their own areas.
“The key to making it happen is to have clubs grouped together who race on different weekends in the month, and of course sufficient drivers. Even if we cannot run a full championship for next year it would be good to get some ‘challenges’ going which will build for the future.”
Drivers and clubs in the North and South interested in the idea are asked to email TKM at their special address – ideas@TKMdriversclub.com.
